We are building the Jansen potash mine in Saskatchewan, Canada – one of the largest, low cost potash mines globally – which when ramped up to its Stage 1 and 2 nameplate capacity will produce ~8.5Mtpa.

About the Role

We are seeking a Head of Sales and Logistics to lead BHP’s potash sales and marketing entry into North America. Responsible for all North American potash sales and marketing activity, including regional sales strategy, customer relationship management and contract negotiation, product management (book position), as well as downstream logistics execution (for example, barging and warehousing). Executes across functional boundaries to deliver a value optimised sales book and effective execution. This role is the external face to stakeholders, including senior executives (CEO, CFO, CMO) from customers, suppliers (logistics, surveyors), traders and industry associations (including customs agents)

Reporting directly to the Vice President Sales & Marketing Potash, this role will develop and lead a team:

  • Accountable for Sales Liaison, Book Management and Logistics activities to operationalise BHP’s entry to the North American potash market, in support of the Jansen Project.
  • Develops and manages BHP’s reputation and brand to achieve effective positioning of Jansen product in the North American potash industry.
  • Builds the North American Sales & Logistics team over time in line with Janse project ramp up.
  • Develops and maintains existing and prospective customer relationships in US and Canada.
  • Has detailed understanding and provides analysis of current and forward-looking regional market dynamics, including customers’ needs and competitor positioning.
  • Develops BHP’s standard US Delivered Potash Sales and Purchase contracts and commercial terms.
  • Leads negotiations and conclusion of major strategic customer agreements to ensure full placement of potash product, in line with Jansen project production profile. Demonstrates ability to successfully conclude agreements and deliver at market or better commercial outcomes.
  • Leads commercial establishment and oversight (including managing HSE and operational risks) of third-party downstream logistics providers e.g. barge and warehouse management.

About You

 

To be a top performer you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a commercial, economic, technical or relevant discipline (or higher)
  • >15 years working experience in Sales & Marketing roles in commodity markets
  • >10 years people leadership experience
  • Experience in US potash or fertilizer markets
  • Experience in new business development
