We are currently looking for a permanent HV Electrician at our Western Australia Iron Ore Port Operation.  Reporting to the High Voltage Electrical Supervisor, the HV Electrical Technician will be required to safely operate and maintain the BHP Port Hedland transmission and distribution systems which includes high voltage and low voltage assets. The role will be responsible for maintaining, testing, commissioning, and breakdown recovery of all aspects of the BHP Port transmission and distribution systems.  
Duties include:
 
•    Preparing and executing high voltage switching programs, isolations, and permits
•    Maintenance and testing of HV (eg Gelpag, ABB, Reyrolle, GIS, Schneider RM6) and LV switchgear, cabling and transmission and distribution transformers
•    Protection relay secondary injection and protection scheme testing
•    Fault diagnosis and recovery of plant
•    Use of 1SAP for maintenance activities
•    Ensure all procedures are followed to maintain safety standards
•    Work independently and part of the HV maintenance team

 

About You


As the successful candidate, you will possess the following: 

•    C Class Driver’s Licence
•    WA “A” Grade Electrical License
•    Proven experience and competency in High Voltage switching and isolations of Transmission and Distribution networks (Ring main systems, paralleling of circuits)
•    Strong experience with maintenance of HV electrical equipment and systems specific to mining and utilities (including diagnosis and fault finding of substations, switchgear and transformers)
•    Protection testing and commissioning experience
•    Experience with using Omicron test equipment
•    Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
•    Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (SAP experience is highly desirable)
•    The ability to apply expertise to analyse and solve problems 
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are key components of this role as you will work with closely with a variety of stakeholders
•    Certificate III in ESI: Distribution – advantageous
•    HV cable jointing – advantageous
•    HIAB, EWP, Forklift, Dogging and Rigging Certificates – advantageous
