About this role:

 

The Indigenous Support Specialist will work alongside Leaders to improve the experience of Indigenous-identified employees across MAP, while also contributing to broader objectives of cultural safety, inclusion and wellbeing.  

In this role, you will:

 

  • Serve as a key point of contact for Indigenous employees, through the provision of personalised support and advice to improve employee experience. 
  • Advocate for Indigenous perspectives and cultural capability. 
  • Champion the application of the BHP Indigenous Cultural Safety Framework (ICSF) and support other Indigenous employee-focused initiatives aligned to the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), and cultural safety and wellbeing broadly.  
  • Work alongside leaders and employees on Indigenous social, cultural and recognition matters. 

Key Accountabilities include:

 

  • Build and maintain relationships with the broader Specialist Indigenous Support network and MAP Indigenous Employee Network.
  • On behalf of MAP, liaise with other BHP departments, Global, and groups to draw upon available resources, and align with BHP communications and programs that build positive culture and support Indigenous employees at BHP.
  • Work alongside MAP HR and HSS support to align on indigenous positive culture and support initiatives.
  • Help support other MAP initiatives that champion and advocate for Indigenous employees and lift cultural capability in our Leaders and Employees.
  • Connect with external organisations and support that can contribute to the MAP Indigenous Employee Sustainable Plan, as well as wider indigenous initiatives across MAP.

About You

 

  • Experience building strong relationships with Indigenous peoples, internal networks and communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders (Leaders, HR, HSS, departments, external organisations).
  • Experience supporting cultural awareness, inclusion or employee support programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, particularly with Leaders.
  • Experience working in the resources sector will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver initiatives with clear outcomes or KPIs.
  • High cultural awareness, confidentiality and sensitivity when supporting Indigenous employees.
  • Experience in Inclusion & Diversity initiatives or councils.
  • Knowledge of the mining sector or BHP operations.
  • Relevant vocational, TAFE or university qualifications. 

 

Location: 

 

The location is flexible between BHP offices at Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth. Existing site located incumbents would be considered.
