About the Role

 

We are currently recruiting Principal level role within BHP working in the Minerals Australia Indigenous Engagement team to bring rights and reconciliation together.

The Principal Indigenous Engagement will
support the effective execution of key Indigenous Engagement priorities at the Western Australia Iron Ore Asset.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain trusted, culturally responsive and respectful partnerships with Traditional Owner groups, Aboriginal communities and other WA based Indigenous organisations. 
  • Support and participate in the effective negotiation of Native Title agreements for WA assets. 
  • Ongoing implementation and governance of key Native Title agreements and agreement commitments for WA assets. 
  • Partner across functions to support the delivery of key Reconciliation Action Plan commitments and Social Value outcomes with Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal communities, such as supporting and championing the development and delivery of Social Investment projects and Economic Empowerment opportunities (employment and procurement). 
  • Provide asset and functional coaching, support, and advice on Indigenous Engagement related content. 
  • Support the delivery and implementation of the Cultural Respect Framework, including supporting the development and roll-out of Traditional Owner Cultural Awareness/ understanding training and Cultural immersion programs. 
  • Support the asset level delivery of BHP’s Reconciliation Action Plan - Public Engagement commitments, such as NAIDOC and National Reconciliation Week activities. 
  • Provide regular reporting, administrative support, financial management requirements including payment processing, Approvals due diligence requests, and the engagement in Free Prior and Informed Consent and Ethics and Compliance processes.

About You

 

Your style will be inclusive, professional, and collaborative and you will possess commitment to integrity and discretion in dealing with sensitive cultural and commercial issues, together with the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy. You will have proven experience in engaging with Indigenous peoples and an ability to create and promote a culturally safe workplace.  

 

With strong communications skills, you will have the capability to engage, influence and advise colleagues and functions at BHP. 

 

The successful candidate will have the following attributes: 
 

  • Proven experience working with/and the development and maintenance of effective relationships with Traditional Owner groups and other Aboriginal communities / effective community engagement background. 
  • Demonstrated experience in Native Title and Indigenous Affairs/Engagement in the resources sector, preferred. 
  • An ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative and best practice outcomes - projects and/or programs that contribute to culturally responsive, sustainable, and mutually beneficial outcomes. 
  • Operate as a highly functioning team member, with a proven ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, critical thinking, problem solving while working in high pressure situations, and the ability to meet time critical deadlines. 
  • Tertiary qualification/s (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, is desirable.
