Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade. 


As an Instrumentation Technician, you will work in the Ventilation team, reporting to the Senior Ventilation Engineer. Your primary focus will be on the calibration, installation, and maintenance of environmental and ventilation monitoring instrumentation.


This role provides an excellent opportunity for a technically minded individual who is passionate about improving underground environmental monitoring systems, data integrity, and control reliability.

 

Please note this position is based at Carrapateena on a FIFO from Adelaide basis, on an 8 days on / 6 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off roster.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain mine environmental monitoring instruments across underground and surface locations
  • Perform system fault-finding and diagnostics to ensure accurate data capture and minimise downtime
  • Validate and verify data to maintain confidence in ventilation and Radon Decay Product (RDP) reporting metrics
  • Support the development and rollout of real-time monitoring and data acquisition systems
  • Assist the Ventilation and RDP Supervisor with instrumentation performance reviews and compliance audits
  • Maintain calibration records, maintenance logs, and equipment registers
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and IT teams to improve instrument connectivity, reliability, and reporting accuracy
  • Support continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing automation, real-time visibility, and environmental performance across the ventilation network

About You

 

  • Proven experience in instrumentation, electrical maintenance, or environmental monitoring
  • Technical competency in the calibration and maintenance of sensors and instrumentation systems
  • Proactive problem-solving and analytical skills with a practical, hands-on approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities, particularly in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Understanding of mine ventilation systems and Radon Decay Product (RDP) monitoring (desirable)
  • Proficiency in data management tools or SCADA systems (advantageous)
  • Australian recognised Trade qualifications in Instrumentation and Control, Electrical, or a closely related discipline
  • Underground mining or industrial experience (highly regarded)
