About the role

 

Are you ready to gain real-world experience, contribute to meaningful projects, and accelerate your career in commercial operations? Join the BHP Commercial Internship Programme in Singapore and become part of a dynamic team shaping the future of resources.

 

You will work on innovative projects that leverage macroeconomic indicators, commodity fundamentals, market intelligence, news analytics, and large language models (LLMs) to enhance market risk assessment and probabilistic stress testing capabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support the development of AI and GenAI solutions for market risk management, with a focus on stress testing, scenario analysis, and tail risk assessment.
  • Collect, clean, validate, and analyse structured and unstructured data, including commodity prices, macroeconomic indicators, market reports, and news articles.
  • Apply machine learning, NLP, and LLM techniques to extract market insights and support probabilistic scenario generation.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations using Power BI and Python to communicate risk insights and support decision-making.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate/postgraduate student pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Quantitative Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Working-level proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Outstanding understanding of Machine Learning, LLMs, GenAI, and data analytics.
  • Familiarity with Power BI and data visualization tools.
  • Interest in financial markets, commodity markets, risk management, or AI applications in finance.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, collaboration mindset, and sense of ownership.

 

Preferred

 

  • Knowledge of market risk concepts such as stress testing, VaR, scenario analysis, or probability distributions.
  • Exposure to NLP, time-series forecasting, or commodity market analytics.
