About the Role
We are seeking an experienced AI leader to join our Data & Digital Australia team, partnering with BHPs Australian assets to deliver digital solutions that are safe, scalable, and tailored to drive measurable outcomes in production, cost, and safety. Reporting to the Manager Data & AI Australia, you will lead a team of AI Engineers deploying cutting-edge GenAI solutions in partnership with Digital Product development teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support a team of AI Engineers spread across region and timezone
- Oversee the strategy and implementation of GenAI agents and solutions using agentic orchestration frameworks like LangGraph and Strands
- Support the strategy, design and implementation of knowledge graphs and RAG models to enhance the capabilities of our GenAI agents
- Contribute to the development of best practices, standards, and architectural guidelines for AI systems
- Remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, GenAI and natural language processing through engagements with partners and peers
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
- Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Translate business processes and requirements to identify appropriate technology solutions
- Manage vendor selection, contracts, and performance to maximise operational and financial outcomes and mitigate BHP's exposure to risk
- Define value drivers and boundaries of an opportunity to determine investment worth
About You
- By nature, you are a systems thinker who enjoys solving complex business challenges through the use of data and is able to gather insights which you are able to translate into actions and follow through with achieving sustainable outcomes and maximize value
- Thriving in fast-paced environments, you will have a passion for learning new technologies that can improve our business and the way we work
- You are energised by change, will be comfortable in drawing on your strong communication and relationship skills to influence your peers and leaders to deliver measurable and meaningful results
- Experience in roles such as Senior AI Engineer and Data Scientist, or related roles with experience in applying machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, GenAI, and computer vision technologies
- Experience leading a diverse technical team of Software Developers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, AI Engineers or related roles
- Strong Python skills and hands-on experience in machine learning (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face), NLP, and data engineering
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
