About the Role
Are you a highly skilled Control System Engineer with leadership experience? We are looking for a Lead Control System Engineer to head our control systems team at the highly automated Mooka Ore Car Repair Shop (MOCRS) in Port Hedland.
The Mooka Control Systems team is a dedicated team that supports the control systems at the highly automated WAIO Mooka ore car maintenance workshop. This role will be responsible for leading this team including providing effective and efficient 24/7 support for breakdowns and production critical issues, control system support for plant maintenance activities, functional safety preventative maintenance assistance, implementing minor improvements and providing technical stewardship and governance on control system changes.
Reporting to the Superintendent Control Systems Port & Rail, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations
- Have an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
- Lead a 24/7 control systems support team, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring and rapid issue resolution to minimize delays.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing control systems enhancements to improve safety, increase reliability, reduce delays and reduce risks associated with Control Systems and associated platforms.
- Technical control system leadership, technical review and technical approvals of proposed changes including design
- Investigate and identify the root causes of plant downtime related to control systems, and the solutions required to prevent repeat events from occurring.
- Initiate and implement minor control system improvement work to achieve safer and reliable plant, thereby maintaining and improving process efficiencies in line with our business plan
- Manage control system engineering planned work
- Foster sustainable, high performing, mission focused team with the right capabilities and skills, including the integration and collaboration of asset resources to ensure delivery.
This position is a site-based role on a 5/2, 4/3 roster.
About You
You will be a motivated and passionate professional committed to technical excellence, operational support and sustainable improvement. Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring operational, engineering or technology teams in a complex operational environment will contribute to your success in this role.
Other attributes that you will possess include:
- Strong HSE and risk management focus. Functional Safety (TUV) qualifications are desirable.
- A leader who thrives under pressure, who can stay calm and composed to deal with time critical operational issues on a regular basis
- The ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and demands simultaneously, and to prioritise for their team.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to work effectively and build relationships with people at all levels of the business.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem skills
- Currently possess control systems experience. Experience in in the mining / resources sector and ore car workshops is highly desirable
- Experience in configuring, programming and commissioning various control system platforms preferably including Siemens PLCs, WinCC SCADA, Siemens CNCs, WinCC, Solving AGV systems, Kollmorgen PLCs, SQL, Sick PLCs and Safety PLCs.
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Mechatronic or Control System Engineering or Trade qualifications in Electrical or Instrumentation discipline in equivalent industry and/or organisational experience
