About the Role
The role can be based in Australia (Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth) or Singapore.
Our Global BHP Technology function partners with our Operations and Functions to drive improvement and innovation in safety, culture, productivity, and social value through the application of world class technology.
As part of the Finance Core Function & GBS R2A team, within the Technology Function, you will report into the Product Manager Finance Core Function & GBS R2A and also work closely with Finance, GBS R2A and Technology. The Lead Domain Architect - Finance will be responsible for shaping and delivering the technology strategy for Finance functions within the organization. As a senior technical leader, you will govern the design and implementation of software solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives, enterprise architecture standards, and best practices. You will act as a bridge between business stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors to drive innovation, streamline processes, and maintain a robust technology roadmap.
In this role, your key accountabilities will include:
1. Strategic Leadership
- Develop and maintain the 5-year technology roadmap for Finance and GBS Record to Analyse (R2A), ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with business leaders to understand financial and GBS processes, pain points, and future needs to inform architectural decisions.
- Lead the evaluation and selection of software platforms and technologies for Finance and GBS functions.
2. Architectural Governance
- Define, implement, and enforce architecture principles, standards, and guidelines.
- Review and approve designs to ensure compliance with enterprise architecture.
- Conduct regular assessments of current systems to identify risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
3. Solution Design and Delivery
- Provide end-to-end architecture oversight for Finance-related projects, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, SME, Developers, and DevOps teams to design and implement integrated solutions.
- Drive the adoption of modern technologies such as cloud computing, automation, and data analytics to optimize financial and GBS processes.
4. Stakeholder Management
- Support the liaison between Finance, GBS, Technology, and other business units to ensure alignment on goals and priorities.
- Partner with external vendors and service providers to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
- Present architecture solutions and roadmaps to senior executives and key stakeholders.
5. Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Provide technical leadership to SME, Product Owners, and cross-functional teams within the Finance domain.
- Mentor junior architects to foster professional growth and align their efforts with organizational goals.
- Contribute to building a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
About You
- Extensive experience delivering and governing enterprise-scale SAP solutions, with deep expertise across Finance, Treasury, Record-to-Analyse (R2A), and related finance domains.
- Proven SAP Finance background with significant experience in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, and Technology Strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to define and govern architecture principles, standards, governance frameworks, and target-state roadmaps that align technology investments with business objectives.
- Strong expertise in SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA, with a deep understanding of Finance, Treasury, Cash Management, BCM, and associated business processes.
- Experience leading large-scale SAP transformation programs and applying Clean Core principles to reduce complexity, improve maintainability, and enable innovation.
- Hands-on experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), including integration, extension, automation, and innovation capabilities.
- Strong understanding of modern cloud architectures and enterprise integration patterns across SAP, Microsoft, and third-party technology platforms.
- Experience assessing, implementing, and governing Generative AI and AI-enabled solutions, ensuring security, scalability, compliance, and measurable business outcomes.
- Knowledge of enterprise AI platforms such as Microsoft AI Foundry, Azure AI Services, SAP Business AI, Joule, or similar enterprise AI ecosystems.
- Experience integrating SAP environments with external platforms and service providers, including banking, market data, SaaS, and enterprise applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs and resolve complex business and technology challenges.
- Demonstrated experience leading architecture and technology decisions across strategic initiatives, transformation programs, and continuous improvement activities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate architecture strategy and complex technical concepts to executives, business leaders, delivery teams, and external partners.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor architects and subject matter experts, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presenting architecture strategies, investment roadmaps, and technology recommendations to senior leadership.
- SAP S/4HANA certification and experience leading large-scale ERP modernisation and cloud transformation initiatives.
- Experience with SAP Business AI, Joule, Intelligent Automation, Process Mining, and AI-enabled finance processes.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Fabric, or related AI and data platforms.
- Knowledge of SAP BTP architecture, extension patterns, event-driven integration, API management, and application development.
- Experience applying enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework, or equivalent methodologies.
- Familiarity with SAP Signavio, business capability modelling, value-stream mapping, and process-led transformation approaches.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, including security, governance, integration, and operating model considerations.
- Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, Platform Engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience with enterprise data and analytics platforms, including SAP Datasphere, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or similar reporting ecosystems.
- Experience establishing AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, and architecture review processes within large enterprises.
