About the Role

 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead – Health, Safety & Security (HSS) to join our Minerals Australia Projects HSS team, supporting the WA Asset Projects Delivery Portfolio.

Reporting to the Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting team members across multiple locations in Pilbara. This high-profile position requires strategic thinking that translates into effective operational practices, driving the delivery of HSS technical and strategic improvement initiatives.


You will be instrumental in building capability and capacity within the HSS function by developing, coaching, and aligning project delivery teams.

The role involves frequent travel and demands adaptability and flexibility to support the growth and success of the HSS team. The 5/2/4/3 fly-in, fly-out roster requires weekly travel of 3 days on site, the remaining days in Perth.

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Engage the projects leadership, projects owners team and supporting functions to ensure effective health and safety management are established and maintained throughout the life cycle of the projects.
  • Provide HSS leadership across a portfolio within the WA Asset Projects portfolio supporting both owners team and contractor leadership.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to HSS team members, fostering professional growth and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Lead portfolio wide HSS strategies and initiatives across the engaging regional HSS teams, technical and asset.
  • Engage on HSS related commercial and technical querier related to the portfolio.
  • Support the deployment of health and safety strategies embedding core safety processes, including coaching and monitoring with visible field leadership.
  • Implement HSS strategies that align with project delivery goals and review project work packs for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Support the projects HSS Strategy implementation across the projects portfolio and other improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse HSS data to support benchmarking, develop key performance metrics, and generate actionable insights.
  • Adhere to and consistently apply safety standards and procedures to ensure safe and effective daily operations.

About You

 

As the successful applicant you will be able to demonstrate the following:

 

  • Proven ability to lead by example and coach others in safety leadership.
  • Proficient in being able to contextualise challenges and communicate in a concise and influential way.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and understand customers.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and confident in making informed decisions.
  • Experience in a mining or projects environment, studies and delivery of different contract and execution models.
  • In-depth knowledge of Western Australian work health and safety legislation in mining environment.
  • Experience in leadership and translating strategic priorities into tactical plans.
  • Proficient in database systems with a keen eye for process automation and reporting improvements.
  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Occupational Hygiene, Safety, Science, Risk Management or a related discipline.
