About the Role:

The Carrapateena Team is accountable for delivering value at the Asset in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders.  With an immediate and core focus on delivery production outcomes, they have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039. The purpose of the Lead – Mechanical Reliability Engineering is to provide mechanical engineering capability & support to manage and optimise assets and processes to ensure Safe, Sustainable and Reliable performance on site. This is to be compliant with regulations and BHP’s policies, procedures and standards. 

 

Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off

In this role you will:

 

  • Lead a team focussed on continually improving the performance and capability of the Carrapateena fixed plant, through application of mechanical engineering principles and timely decision making. This includes effective delivery of Engineering projects, activities and tasks.
  • Ensure any engineering design is safe, effective and reliable for the business needs.
  • Support the Engineering and Maintenance Execution teams in their “ownership” of plant functional areas. Promote collaboration within the team to harness the multi-discipline skills available.  Skill and knowledge sharing are paramount for success.
  • Engagement and collaboration of other site departments to deliver optimal outcomes.
  • Deliver innovative improvement opportunities to exceed current performance (safety, cost, throughput or quality).
  • Management and coordination of external service providers or consultants where required.
  • Promote the following of standard department business processes and communicate these effectively.
  • Ensure all work is planned and scheduled to agreed levels of efficiency.
  • Actively participate in the Continuous Improvement business process. Ensure opportunities have been evaluated and prioritised before executing the improvement project.
  • Seek opportunities to improve tools, practices, development of the people and processes. Advocate for the initiation of the improvement lifecycle in solving challenges.
  • Ensure improvements are implemented in a safe, effective and financially responsible manner.

About You:

  • IEAust recognised mechanical engineering degree.
  • Safety orientated with sound OH&S knowledge and specific statutory obligations.
  • Team leadership experience, with a focus on developing individuals and building a culture of collaboration, problem solving & innovation.
  • Strong technical and mentoring capabilities.
  • Experience in risk management incl. material risk.
  • Demonstrated experience as an operational site technical expert for mechanical engineering.
  • Experience delivering CAPEX and OPEX engineering projects and plant upgrades in a brownfields environment.
  • Experience using CMMS, EAM, ERP solutions (SAP).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Asset Management principles and their application.
  • Technical governance for engineering standards, with sound knowledge of document control.
  • Experience in review & development of quality technical documents & SOW.
  • Management of contractors & consultants.
  • Demonstrated experience at establishing and maintaining productive relationships and working collaboratively to achieve results.
