About The Role

 

Goonyella Riverside Mine is seeking an exceptional and future-focused Lead Mine Scheduling to join our high-performing Mine Planning team. This is a critical role at Australia’s largest autonomous coal mine shaping how we operate today — and how we plan for tomorrow.

 

As a key advisor to the Superintendent and broader leadership team, you will take ownership of the load and haul strategy across autonomous and conventional operations. You will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence, continuous improvement, stakeholder integration, and governance in guiding the short-term and tactical mine direction. You will be responsible for leading, developing, and coaching a team of Mine Scheduling Specialists ensuring safe, accurate, and executable designs.

 

In this role, you will:

 

· Lead the execution of the site’s Prestrip design strategy across Budget, Short Range Forecast (SRF), Weekly, and 24hr planning horizons.

· Apply advanced knowledge of prestrip first-principles, including dig-readiness planning, reserving, geotechnical compliance, environmental controls, and infrastructure alignment.

· Ensure tactical direction is fit-for-purpose, clearly communicated, and aligned across Planning, Survey, Geotechnical, and Production teams.

· Provide clear, data-driven insights to support decision-making for site leadership.

· Drive performance and continuous improvement through management of performance, problem solving, and improvement projects.

· Mentor and develop schedulers within the team, uplifting capability and promoting best practice planning practices.

· Comply with relevant policies, Our Requirements (ORs), and the SHMS.

About You

 

We’re looking for a passionate mining professional with a strong background in open-cut coal planning who brings:

 

· Minimum 5 years’ experience in mine planning, with proven experiences in Prestrip planning. Diversified experience across a range of mine planning disciplines including scheduling, haulage planning, drill & blast, coal planning, rehabilitation and contractor activities.

· Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Spry, Vulcan, Deswik or similar).

· A collaborative, team-focused approach with strong communication skills.

· A passion for uplifting capability, improving systems and delivering high-quality schedules.

· The ability to influence, engage and work with a diverse range of stakeholders.

· Exposure to autonomous environments, fleet management systems and real-time operational data analysis is highly regarded.
