About Potash
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location
Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Purpose
At BHP, we are committed to operational excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement — and our people are central to that success. We’re looking for a Lead, Payroll Validation to join our GBS HR team.
This is a leadership role, comparable to a manager-level position in the Canadian market, responsible for overseeing payroll validation, data quality, risk management, and continuous improvement across BHP’s Canadian payroll operations.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
- Lead payroll validation to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely pay runs.
- Manage payroll master data quality, controls, and error resolution.
- Provide expert advice on complex payroll issues and escalations.
- Partner with data owners and engineers to fix root causes and improve data integrity.
- Connect with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and compliance initiatives.
- Coach internal teams and outsourced partners.
- Escalate system issues requiring technical changes or project support.
- Promote collaboration and a culture of accountability whilst leading a team of Payroll Validation specialists.
- Partner with various Canadian payroll vendors to ensure monthly and annual reporting compliance.
About You
- Proven leadership experience in payroll or HR operations.
- Strong technical expertise in payroll validation, systems, and compliance.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage vendor relationships.
- Experience in process improvement and root cause problem solving.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes and controls.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and collaboration skills.
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification is an asset, as is post-secondary qualification in related field.
