About the Role


Reporting into the Mods&Ops Superintendent at Goonyella Riverside Mine, you will be responsible for the safe and predictable delivery of the capital portfolio for engineering projects as part of the BMA Engineering Team.

You will manage a Portfolio of sustaining capital projects between AU$35M to AU$78M, depending on the Australian Financial Year and Coal Handling shutdown schedule. The Portfolio consists of small to medium projects, including structural, mechanical, processing, electrical, civil and water. The Portfolio team includes various backgrounds and skill sets, allowing for a diverse environment.

The successful applicant will be based at Goonyella Riverside Mine, on a 5:2 roster. Flexible travel arrangements, including some working from home, may be available for the right candidate.

In this role you will:

  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainability.
  • Provide leadership and support to a team of project specialists throughout project lifecycles, focusing on the governance and execution of investment strategies, standards / frameworks, integration and interface management.
  • Identify and assess risks, making risk informed decisions using BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  • Maintain oversight to ensure that projects are executed in compliance with both internal and external governance processes and Our Requirements.
  • Lead the creation of an environment in which lessons learned and external best practices are part of the operational processes and identify capital efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements.
  • Implement positive communication and cultural processes to support project and operational outcomes.

About You


A successful candidate will have:

  • Experience reporting to, or working in, the PMO.
  • Experience managing a Portfolio of project works, with varying budgets, stakeholders, KPI’s.
  • Experience in a leadership role of 7 or more direct reports.
  • Experience in the entire project life cycle.
  • Experience in mining (QLD Coal Mining preferable, but not a requirement).
  • Experience with site execution planning and shutdown (turnarounds), including working with stakeholders, contractors, and tradespersons.


You will have:

  • Engineering Bachelor Degree, or higher.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A great attitude to learn company processes and think outside the box.
  • A high commitment to safety, quality, attention to detail and procedures.
  • Ability to influence, engage with & communicate effectively across multiple levels, business units, functional areas and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management experience, including PMO.
  • Demonstrate effective writing skills in email, documentation, and presentation development, taking into consideration the target audience.
  • Demonstrate effective skills in project management documentation, including action taking, delay registers, variation registers, inspection and test plans, punch list registers, and close out documentation.
  • Demonstrate effective skills in Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook.
