About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Inbound Maritime, this role will be responsible for leading a team focused on the end-to-end supply chain for international logistics movements of operational cargo and project cargo. This role will be accountable for managing a small team of people and ensuring that the team operates in a well governed, yet efficient manner, and to provide supply chain expertise in the international inbound freight to our business optimizing the freight choices to deliver bottom line cost savings, safely whilst balancing risk. You will be part of the broader Maritime team, which has a global footprint and form part of the Inbound Maritime leadership team.
Location: Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide
In this role, you will:
• Be the focal point for all international logistics demand
• Develop effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
• Transform BHP’s Inbound Supply Chain by insourcing freight requirements to BHP’s Maritime and Supply Chain Excellence function.
• Manage contractors in accordance with our Contractor Management Framework.
• Apply an understanding of the end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimisation, and maximise value.
• Identify opportunities to collaborate with internal stakeholders
• Analyse opportunities and advise on preferred transportation method (s) in a timely manner
• Work alongside our stakeholders and customers to provide detailed inbound supply chain expertise advising on freight choices in the procurement of goods internationally.
• Optimise shipping practices by applying material, ship and port knowledge.
• Applying logistics management procedures and requirements to safely and efficiently meet stakeholder demands.
• Gain support for and negotiate outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals.
• Support the management of vendor/customer selection, contracts, and performance to maximise operational and financial outcomes and mitigate BHP’s exposure to risk.
• Planning, tracking the delivery of, and managing the international logistics for Projects to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.
• Identifying and assessing risks, making risk informed decisions, using BHP’s risk management framework and building a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
About You
You will have:
• Ability to lead, coach and mentor a team
• Background in commodity trade management, commoditised markets
• Strong understanding of shipping demand/supply markets
• Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
• Project cargo knowledge
• Preferably experience in supply chain logistics
• Experience with containerized, out of gauge and break bulk cargo
• Familiarity with export and import regulations
• Collaborative team player that can work in a global, diverse team
• Strong customer service skills
• Skilled with developing and communicating strategies and complex messages to stakeholders
• Embraces an attitude as a self-starter, with an eye for detail and agility to change
• Demonstrates creative thinking, pursuing new and unique approaches to tackling challenges
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express details and facts in a confident and articulate manner
• Superior interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with stakeholders across the organization
• Analytical thinking, ability to effectively convey compelling value propositions and work to build consensus.
• Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT)
