About the Role

 

  • The role is full time and based in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth or Melbourne

Purpose
Business Development is part of Portfolio Strategy and Development team, led by our Chief Development Officer. Our primary purpose is to create long-term value by strengthening BHP’s portfolio of Assets and investment opportunities. 

 

We are seeking a motivated professional with the imagination and drive to strengthen and enhance BHP’s portfolio by establishing strategic commercial arrangements to deliver value for our Assets and our shareholders. You will also have an opportunity to generate, evaluate and execute new business ideas aligned with BHP’s strategy to grow its exposure to future facing commodities. 

 

Key accountabilities include:

 

  • Identify opportunities to establish and improve high value, complex and highly strategic commercial arrangements for our Assets
  • Lead the evaluation of targeted projects and execution of transactions, develop business cases, and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Manage diverse internal and external teams 
  • Provide commercial leadership on a broad range of issues to support our Assets
  • Build relationships with key industry participants, advisors, and other stakeholders
  • Represent BHP at important industry events to position BHP as the preferred partner of choice, strengthen market engagement and generate proprietary deal flow
  • Maintain an overriding commitment to health and safety and BHP’s charter values and Code of Conduct 

About You

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s in either business, Law, Finance, Engineering or Geology
  • Transaction experience (direct investing or sell-side advisory) in corporate/business development, investment banking, private equity/debt, VC or hedge fund industry; preferably in the minerals industry 
  • Technical knowledge (theoretical & practical) with particular focus on the areas of valuation methodology and practices, transaction structuring, due diligence and risk assessment 
  • Knowledge of the minerals industry; a basic understanding of geology, mining engineering, mineral processing and infrastructure is a plus

  • Ability to apply understanding of operational and technical disciplines to identify value-added business development opportunities 
  • Proven track record of originating, structuring, negotiating, managing, and executing transactions
  • Experience managing internal and external multidisciplinary teams efficiently and effectively
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with ability to structure and present complex ideas and information in a simple, articulate, balanced and persuasive way
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships, effective in managing and influencing key stakeholders
  • Self-starter and team player with a high level of maturity, excellent people and project management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and constant change; the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with impeccable business judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive under tight timelines and competing priorities
