About the Role

 

Join BHP’s WAIO Procurement team and lead the transformation of our sourcing strategy across iron ore, mining services, and port operations. We are reshaping our procurement approach to unlock BHP's growth strategy. Be at the forefront of commercial innovation, supplier partnerships, and operational excellence in one of our most dynamic portfolios.

 

We are seeking a strategic thinker and people leader who is passionate about building and managing strong supplier relationships, optimizing spend, ensuring reliable supply for our operations, and driving commercial excellence. As Lead – Processing, Mining Services & Port, you will join the WAIO Procurement team and lead a group of procurement professionals to deliver critical strategies and agreements that support our customers’ needs across WAIO. You will be a key commercial advisor to the WAIO business, collaborating directly with senior asset stakeholders to deliver optimized commercial outcomes and push the boundaries of what’s possible. 

 

  • Supplier Management - Build and manage strategic supplier relationships that deliver value beyond contract terms through innovation, risk sharing, R&D, and active commercial partnerships.

  • Operational Excellence - Obtain the lowest total cost of ownership for goods and services, ensuring value and quality using market research, supplier evaluation, and fact-based negotiation to meet business objectives. Drive end-to-end supply chain efficiency to maximise value

  • Strategic Leadership - Develop and execute sourcing strategies to identify, structure, and prioritize opportunities, making educated risk trade-offs across categories and regions over the medium term

  • Risk Management - Mitigate risks across the value chain, in alignment with public policy and our sustainability and climate commitments.

  • Negotiation Mastery – bring a strategic mindset to negotiations, balancing assertiveness with empathy to build trust and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Navigate ambiguity, leverage data, and influence stakeholders to ensure long-term mutual value.

About You

 

You are an experienced procurement leader with a growth mindset and passion for continuous improvement. You thrive in complexity and are energised by the opportunity to shape the future of procurement in one of the world's largest resource companiess. You are confident in building, collaborating, and maintaining partnerships with critical strategic suppliers, as well as with executive leadership teams, to create long-term value chain strategies that address business objectives and production targets, and establish frameworks to share value and risk.

You are energetic and results-oriented, thriving under pressure and bringing attention to detail along with the ability to meet multiple, interdependent deadlines.
