About the Role

We are seeking an experienced capability and training professional to lead the Rail Control Capability & Verification team within our Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC). Reporting to the Rail Control Superintendent, this leadership role plays a critical part in building workforce capability, strengthening assurance practices, and ensuring our Rail Controllers have the skills, knowledge and confidence to operate safely and effectively.

 

This position offers the opportunity to influence the future readiness of a safety-critical operational workforce by shaping training frameworks, guiding continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting the ongoing development of current and future Rail Controllers.

 

Working collaboratively with operational leaders and stakeholders, you will help foster a culture where safety, learning and performance go hand in hand while supporting the delivery of reliable rail operations across one of Australia's largest privately owned rail networks.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Guide and support the Rail Control Capability & Verification team to deliver safe, effective and compliant training and assurance outcomes
  • Develop and enhance capability frameworks that support current operational requirements and future workforce needs
  • Oversee training needs analysis, assessment programs and learning solutions that strengthen operational readiness.
  • Maintain contemporary training and verification practices aligned to industry standards and business requirements
  • Lead assurance activities, capability verification processes and initiatives that strengthen operational resilience
  • Use performance insights, capability data and operational trends to identify improvement opportunities and measure effectiveness
  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders across Rail Control to strengthen capability outcomes and training standards
  • Support capability, training and assurance projects that contribute to operational excellence
  • Facilitate onboarding, coaching, mentoring and development opportunities for Rail Controllers, trainees and on-shift trainers

About You

 

You are passionate about developing people and creating environments where individuals and teams can perform at their best. You bring a strong understanding of operational capability, training and assurance, together with the ability to build meaningful partnerships across a diverse stakeholder group.

 

You will also bring:

 

  • Experience within a Rail Control or broader rail operations environment
  • Demonstrated experience in training, assessment and workforce capability development
  • Experience supporting and developing teams within operational environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across multiple levels of an organisation
  • Change management capability and experience supporting improvement initiatives
  • Well-developed analytical, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using learning management systems, capability reporting tools and performance data to inform decision making
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or higher
