About the Role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Rail Data & Systems, this role is responsible for identifying, analysing, and supporting improvement initiatives through data-driven insights. As part of the Rail Network Capacity team, you will work across analytics, digital strategy, and integration of rail digital assets to support WAIO Rail.

 

You will collaborate closely with operational improvement leads to uplift supply chain capacity and deliver insights that inform and drive data driven decision-making across Rail.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Partner with BHP Technology teams to ingest, model, and contextualise large volumes of operational data into a central source of truth for analytics and decision making.

  • Analyse complex rail datasets to generate insights that drive performance improvement and network optimisation.

  • Lead the development and management of rail digital assets and contribute to the digital roadmap.

  • Support long-term Rail strategic planning through data modelling and analytics.

  • Design, build, and deploy dashboards and analytical tools to support strategic change initiatives.

  • Provide key modelling inputs to the supply chain simulation team.

  • Contribute to the delivery and execution of Rail’s Digital Strategy.

 

 

About You

 

 

  • You bring an analytical mindset and can translate complex datasets into practical solutions for engineering and operational challenges.

  • You hold a degree in mathematics, data science, engineering, computer science, actuarial science or a related discipline.

  • You are proficient with data manipulation and analytics tools, including SQL, Python, and Power BI.

  • Experience in rail, heavy industry, mining, or manufacturing will be highly regarded.

  • You understand continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, 6 Sigma or root cause analysis principles) and have experience supporting organisational change.

  • You can clearly communicate complex analytical concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Above all, you have an inherent curiosity that drives you to learn more and a practical ability to apply your knowledge to help people solve problems
