About the Role
As the Lead Reliability Engineer Mechanical, you will provide tactical leadership and support to the team that provide mechanical engineering capability and optimise assets and processes to ensure Safe, Sustainable and Reliable performance on site. This is to be compliant with regulations and BHP’s policies, procedures and standards.
You will lead a team focused on continually improving the performance and capability of the Olympic Dam fixed plant, through application of mechanical engineering principles and timely decision making. This includes effective delivery of Engineering projects, activities and tasks.
This role is based at Olympic Dam on a 5/2, 4/3 roster (with flexibility). You can elect to FIFO from Adelaide or reside in Roxby Downs.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the reliability of plant & equipment, ensuring they meet performance standards
- Analyse data from various sources to identify trends and areas for improvement in equipment reliability
- Facilitate root cause analysis and conduct “failure type” reviews (e.g.5 Whys, FMECA) of plant, equipment and non-process infrastructure based on no compliance to planned availability or unpredicted failures
- Ensure any engineering design is safe, effective and reliable for the business needs
- Analyse life of plant, equipment and infrastructure and determine equipment capability assumptions based on the 2 year Production plan and provides input into the development of the capital budget for the area
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, planning, execution and production teams
- Deliver innovative engineering improvement opportunities to exceed current performance (safety, cost, throughput or quality)
- Management and coordination of external service providers or consultants where required.
- Ensure all work is planned and scheduled to agreed levels of efficiency
- Actively participate in the Continuous Improvement business process
- Ensure opportunities have been evaluated and prioritised before executing the improvement project and incorporating the latest technologies and industry developments
- Promote collaboration within the team to harness the multi-discipline skills available whilst providing guidance and mentorship to developing engineers and specialists
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Significant experience in senior reliability engineering or maintenance roles.
- Demonstrated experience as an operational site technical expert for mechanical engineering
- Ability to manage and lead mechanical engineering improvement projects from initial concept through to completion
- Demonstrated facilitation of problem-solving sessions with multiple stakeholders in order to improve the reliability of plant
- Experience using CMMS (SAP)
- Safety orientated with sound OH&S knowledge and specific statutory obligations
- Technical governance for engineering standards, with sound knowledge of document control.
- Experience in review & development of quality technical documents and mechanical drawing
- Team leadership experience, with a focus on developing individuals and building a culture of collaboration, problem solving & innovation
- Strong technical and mentoring capabilities
- Inclusive team player that is proactive, self-driven and accountable
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
- Confident to coach, lead and initiate change
- Management of contractors & consultants
- Demonstrated experience at establishing and maintaining productive relationships across a variety of departments and stakeholders and working collaboratively to achieve results
