About the Role
BMA Goonyella Riverside Mine is seeking a Security, Medical and Emergency Management Lead. In this role, you will provide tactical support in the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of security, medical, and emergency management services across the operation and during Major Shutdowns.
Including oversight of related procedures, systems, and initiatives to ensure they remain effective, compliant, and fit-for-purpose in alignment with BMA standards and regulatory requirements.
The role plays a critical part in capability development by coaching and mentoring leaders and members of the Security, Medical, and Emergency Response Teams (ERTs). This ensures high performance, operational readiness, and alignment with the organisation’s safety, risk, and resilience objectives.
As the successful candidate you will:
- Provide visible and felt leadership to Security, Medical, and Emergency Management (SEM) teams (including Major Shutdowns) to ensure safe, stable, and values-aligned operations.
- Maintain oversight of SEM systems, procedures, and compliance to ensure they are current, effective, and aligned with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.
- Lead SEM performance reporting and insights, using data to drive decision-making, identify trends, and support continuous improvement.
- Manage SEM-related contracts to optimise operational and financial performance, mitigate risk, and ensure service quality and accountability.
- Demonstrate financial stewardship by managing SEM operational costs within budget, identifying efficiencies, and supporting cost-saving initiatives.
- Facilitate and lead incident management training, exercises, and system improvements to enhance operational readiness and response capability.
- Identify, assess, and manage SEM risks using BHP’s risk management framework, ensuring our critical controls are effective and continuously improved.
About You
To be successful in the Lead SEM role you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in security, medical or emergency management
- Demonstrated experience in security, medical, and emergency management or a related field preferably within a mining environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, make risked based decisions under pressure, and ensure effective response and recovery during security incidents, medical emergencies, or crisis events
- Proficient understanding of Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Legislation
- Demonstrated experience in business, financial and contract performance
