The challenge ahead

 

The Lead Site Construction for the SCPY Leaching Project is critical to maintaining leaching continuity at Spence. Under an EP+C, Owner-led CM delivery model, the role leads all on-site construction to deliver the project safely, ensuring full alignment with BHP Our Requirements. It is accountable for execution against scope, schedule, cost, and quality, with a strong emphasis on safety leadership and integration across operations, engineering, and contractors.

 

Main Functions and Accountabilities: 

 

•    Responsible for leading all field construction activities under an Owner-led CM delivery model, ensuring alignment with the project execution strategy through handover to Operations.
•    Provide visible leadership to drive a zero-harm culture, enforce HSE standards, and champion safety across contractors and workforce.
•    Ensure full compliance with corporate HSS, environmental policies, and local regulations.
•    Actively manage project risks and controls.
•    Deliver construction scope on schedule and within budget, meeting defined quality standards.
•    Monitor progress against milestones and implement recovery plans when required.
•    Ensure constructability, proper sequencing, and productivity optimization.
•    Manage EP+C contractors and subcontractors on site.
•    Ensure contractual compliance, performance tracking, and effective issue resolution.
•    Ensure alignment with Asset requirements and operational readiness.
•    Ensure all construction activities meet engineering specifications and QA/QC standards.
•    Oversee inspections, testing, and punch list closure.
•    Manage field changes and contribute to Management of Change (MoC) processes.
•    Support commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring a seamless handover to Operations.
•    Ensure early integration of Operations and Maintenance teams.
•    Support the Project Manager during execution, sharing accountability for Key Value Drivers throughout the project lifecycle.
•    Continuously agree and negotiate with suppliers and service providers as a result of site interferences, scope changes, or new scopes.
•    Lead stakeholder engagement and ensure alignment through timely communication during execution.
•    Drive implementation of project delivery processes, strategies, systems, and execution plans.

What We Expect From You

 

Requirements:

 

•    University degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Process).
•    Desirable 20+ years of experience in the mining industry, with strong on-site construction experience in projects during execution phases, and exposure to study phases considered an advantage.
•    Proven 10+ years of experience in similar construction roles on projects exceeding US$150M in investment, with a strong track record of delivering on time and within budget.
•    Professional with the ability to work with autonomy, flexibility, and a strong sense of urgency and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
•    Strong stakeholder management capability to effectively connect, align, and mobilize teams (internal and external, including suppliers and contractors) around a common purpose within matrix organizations.
•    Results-oriented (resolutive) professional with strong problem-solving capability.
•    Proven safety leadership and change management skills.
•    Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
•    Professional who values an active field presence and motivates others to work on site.


Other Relevant Aspects:
-    English fluency desirable.
-    Position Grade: 12.
-    BHP Contract.
