Job Profile


The Technical Team, reporting to Planning & Technical, collaborates with Integrated Closure and Business Planning to update long-term closure plans and inform financial forecasts. They complete technical studies, support site operations with best practices and regulatory compliance, and help implement closure management activities. Acting as Subject Matter Experts, they assist with scoping and executing site projects, maintain the technical knowledge base, and manage risks related to tailings, water, and geotechnical issues.

About the Role


To be successful in this role, you will:


  • Be knowledgeable in tailings management, groundwater, hydrogeological, environmental, geochemical and geotechnical disciplines to provide leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts.
  • Support the technical team in the collection, interpretation and analyses of technical data (geotechnical, environmental, geochemical, groundwater) to support development of a technical knowledge base for Legacy Assets sites in Canada.
  • Guide the technical team in the use of studies, models and analyses to support effective management and foster risk informed decisions for Legacy Assets Canadian sites.
  • Lead prioritization of work through development of annual work plans aligned with closure outcomes and in support of managing technical risks.
  • Collaborate and integrate effectively with diverse stakeholders including HSE, Integrated Closure Planning, Projects and Operations.
  • Support managing budgets and forecasts across Canadian sites.
  • Manage planning and tracking of delivery of annual work plan and support adjusting priorities as required based on changing needs.
  • Support effective management of technical risks (tailings and dams, water and geotechnical) including identification, assessment, evaluation, management and mitigation measures.
  • Identify and implement improvement initiatives to support process of continual improvement.
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value with 0% waste.
  • Travel to site locations in Canada and US.

Work Location


This position will be based in Saskatoon with regular travel to other sites in Canada and US. The asociated work schedule is 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About You


To be considered for this role, you require:

  • Technical (environmental, mining, science) or business (finance, accounting, business) related undergraduate degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in related field of expertise.
  • Proven experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Effective strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of risk management including risk assessments and implementation of critical controls.
  • Effective engagement and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capacity to prioritize work and tasks by identifying and focusing on the critical few things that add most value, as well as reducing complexity.
  • Experience collaborating and working effectively within high performing teams.
