About the opportunity
BHP is offering Maintenance Associate Traineeships at the FutureFit Academy, a purpose-built center to designed to fast track your learning journey. Our Maintenance Associate Traineeships are a 12-month program after which you will graduate with a Cert II in Engineering. After graduation you will continue your employment with BHP and move into a Maintenance Associates role on site. Maintenance Associates inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance to keep it in good working order to reduce breakdowns.
The FutureFit Academy currently offers 2 streams of Traineeships which teach you how to maintain different types of equipment.
- Diesel Fitting – This steam is focused on learning to maintain the equipment that moves on a mine site. This equipment is responsible for getting the resources out of the ground and taking it to the processing plant. Common equipment in this field are Dump Trucks, Dozers, Graders and Excavators.
- Mechanical Fitting (Fixed Plant) – This stream offers the opportunity to learn about the equipment that processes the mined material and produces the end product. Some examples of fixed plant equipment you would encounter are Conveyors, Crushers, Apron Feeders and Rock Breakers.
The training involves a mixture of classroom and theory learning, as well as practical workshop training. You will learn to interpret mechanical drawings, the basics of hydraulic engines and about the variety of tools we use to maintain these machines.
Training is undertaken at our training academy in Perth. While training you will be working a roster of 7 Days / 7 Off / 7 Nights / 7 Off, day shift hours are 6am to 4:30pm and night shift hours are 1:30pm to 12:00am. These positions do not offer transport or accommodation, you will be required to live within 1 hours driving distance to the Academy. Once you have graduated, you will be entitled to accommodation at one of our sites.
BHP has sites across Australia, and it is important to understand that you may be required to relocate (including interstate) once you complete your training. This is based on demand for your skillset across our mine sites.
