About the Role

BHP’s US$3.6 billion South Flank is a greenfield mine and brownfield processing centre created adjacent to and within the Mining Area C operation. Located approximately 130km north-west of Newman, South Flank together with Mining Area C will become one of the largest iron ore hubs in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore. South Flank will help to maximise the volume and quality of BHP’s iron ore production, which is essential for the world’s steel.

We are seeking a diverse and talented individual to take on the role of Breakdown Controller Technician Mechanical – Maintenance 1 (M1) at our South Flank Mine Site.  This is a predominantly office based role co-rdinating and liaising with the maintenance supervisor, production supervisor, operators and mine control ensuring and excellent level of service. 


You will be involved in analysing asset health data and making informed decisions to prevent unplanned machine downtime.  You will be responding to maintenance calls from operators of all Heavy Mobile Equipment on site to efficiently manage and minimise unplanned downtime. 

The roster will be site based on a foundation of 2:1 (7 days, 7 nights, 7 days off). However candidates in pursuit of flexible work arrangements are encouraged to apply.

About You

As the successful candidate you will ideally possess the following experience and skills:

  • Proficient computer skills.  Specific 1SAP knowledge not essential.
  • Mechanical maintenance knowledge / experience not essential, you need to be able to ask the right questions.   
  • Exposure to Komatsu 930E, WA1200; as well as excavators Liebherr 9400 as well as Ancillary fleets. 
  • A minimum of C class manual driver’s license is a requirement for this role


Your excellent engagement and communication skills will be completed by technical strengths, as well as organised decision making in pressure situations.  


Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
