About MECoE
BHP’s Maintenance and Engineering Centre of Excellence (MECoE) is a global hub of technical expertise focused on delivering world-class maintenance and reliability outcomes across our operations.
As part of MECoE, you will:
- Apply advanced reliability engineering practices at scale
- Leverage data, analytics, and modern tools to solve complex asset problems
- Influence maintenance strategy across a global portfolio
- Drive measurable improvements in asset performance and cost
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform asset criticality assessments to prioritise maintenance focus
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) and reliability studies
- Develop and optimise maintenance strategies to reduce failure risk and improve uptime
- Drive initiatives to optimise maintenance lifecycle cost (LCC)
- Analyse failure data and lead RCA investigations
- Conduct risk assessments to support safe and reliable operations
- Deploy maintenance strategies in SAP (CMMS)
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and OEMs to improve equipment performance
This role is based in Adelaide, with occasional site travel supported by modern remote collaboration tools.
About You
You are a technically strong Mechanical Reliability Engineer who combines analytical thinking with practical experience in fixed plant environments.
Your background includes:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience in fixed plant reliability within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry
- Strong understanding of fixed plant mechanical systems
You bring:
- Proven experience in:
- Reliability engineering (RCA, FMEA, RCM)
- Defect elimination and continuous improvement
- Maintenance strategy development and optimisation
- Ability to interpret and utilise condition monitoring and failure data
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
- Experience influencing stakeholders and driving change across multidisciplinary teams
Technical capability:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis
- Experience with CMMS systems (SAP preferred)
- Exposure to Asset Performance Management (APM) tools (desirable)
- Familiarity with condition monitoring techniques (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) (desirable)

- Outcome-focused with a passion for improving asset performance
- Strong communicator able to translate technical insights into actionable outcomes
- Collaborative team player who supports a diverse and inclusive culture
- Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Location & Work Environment
- Adelaide-based role with flexible working arrangements
- Monday to Friday schedule
- Occasional site travel within South Australia
- Supported by leading digital tools and systems
