About the Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Finance Business Partnership Copper SA, this manager role is responsible for the financial performance of the Copper SA operations. You’ll be required to lead a team of Finance Business Partners and support the Copper SA Head of Finance along with Copper SA Non-Functional GMs (including non-process infrastructure teams and projects teams). You will provide specialist financial advice, develop relationships with site leadership and operational personnel and build financial acumen in the Asset. You will create value through improving the quality of business decisions, through analysing financial data, options and valuing opportunities to enhance business outcomes.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Steward the Asset capital portfolio and prioritise capital to drive business performance and risk mitigation, in line with business plans.
  • Support execution of CAP deliverables (including Cash Prioritisation) and capital / resource allocation aligned with BHP’s strategic goals.
  • Provide capital governance including through leading the cash prioritisation process and management of the Copper SA Asset IRC office. 
  • Review business case development and investment evaluation on operational capital and continuous improvement projects.
  • Interface with Project Teams and Regional IRC, including Project Delivery Group leaders.
  • Finance business partnering for Copper SA Functional teams (including non-process infrastructure teams) – Influencing and challenging the teams in financial planning, cost control and productivity, capital allocation and efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Support of long term (life of asset) planning with project study and technical teams, on operating cost and capital assumptions including relevant benchmarking.
  • Ad-hoc analysis and reporting to communicate hypotheses and financial recommendations.
  • Manage, mentor and guide a team of Finance Business Partners in providing financial insight, value coaching and business acumen to decision making.
  • Coach and build business acumen with key stakeholders in financial knowledge and the use of information systems to determine cost and budget outcomes and to improve understanding of financial implications of decision making.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for the continual improvement within the department.

 

This role is based in Adelaide with some travel to the Copper SA operational mine sites.

 

 

 

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to deal with multiple priorities and stakeholders, with the ability to delegate whilst maintaining a high attention to detail.  You will be naturally curious with an improvement mindset, inspiring challenge via your highly effective communication and superior interpersonal skills, building constructive relationships and credibility with a range of stakeholders and cross functional teams.

 

Key experience and attributes:

  • Extensive experience as finance professional, or a technical/engineering specialist with strong commercial acumen and some finance exposure
  • Ability to work with technical subject matter experts and quickly grasp technical problems / complex issues and synthesise into clear and concise business cases and analyses
  • Demonstrated commercial/operational thinking and experience making value-based business decisions for a commercial return
  • Ability to analyse and effectively communicate (written and oral) analytics outcomes to stakeholders and senior management
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and credibility with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation
  • Understand the key business issues and associated impacts in related disciplines including accounting/reporting, corporate governance, investor relations, tax, treasury, legal and risk management
  • Post Graduate qualifications such as Masters or MBA, CPA, CFA or CA highly desirable
