About the Role
We are seeking a forward thinking and talented individual to take on the key role of Manager Engineering working across all sites in Copper South Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to run a large team with a broad range of disciplines and work with a range of stakeholders including site managers, General Managers, project teams, engineering EPCMs, where your contribution will have a significant impact on the business.
The role is based in Adelaide and for the right applicant BHP will support relocation from any Australian state. Reporting directly into the General Manager for Engineering, Infrastruture and Services this role is a key member of the EIS Lead Team. The role will be responsible for engineering standards, processes, governance, performance and outcomes across all sites in Copper South Australia.
The role will provide leadership to a highly skilled and diverse engineering team, including governance over electrical, mechanical, structural engineering, tailings dams, process safety, information management and the integrated safety management system. The team also includes a Project Management Office who govern and assure the capital portfolio including project framing, tracking, reporting and assurance project close out.
The Manager will be the key driver for improved engineering team performance and effectiveness for Copper SA. As a leading contributor and key advisor, you will deliver on your accountabilities with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility, risk and sustainable development.
Key accountabilities will include:
Management and assurance of the Copper SA Engineering team including strategy, management plans, standards, processes, and systems to ensure optimum risk management and governance for the asset.
Leads performance management of a group of superintendents across various traditional disciplines and additional disciplines in tailings, fire systems, information systems and Integrated Management Systems.
Manages resource availability of engineering personnel to provide:

Support, guidance and advice to operational sites for each engineering discipline.

Engineering management systems including blueprint records, standards, document controls and change management.

Oversee and support external audits of sites & engineering activities.

Support to growth projects and small project groups.

Respectfully and professionally, influence stakeholders to drive optimised outcomes.
The manager needs to be a experienced people leader who operates with transparency, honesty and integrity and has the ability to work effectively with others. Takes ownership and demonstrates high levels operational discipline and action close out to drive the right business outcomes in a timely and professional manner.
Collaborates with operational and project teams to ensure that engineering is executed in accordance with identified methodologies, strategies and systems but is willing to work in new ways and innovate. Supports teams to provide hands on site support for production and safety challenges.
Ensures creation of an environment in which internal lessons learned and external best practices are part of the processes and manages the measurement and continuous improvement of performance, recommending any changes required to identify efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements to improve business and budget outcomes.
Passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individual team members through mentoring and coaching you will bring strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to lead a team that delivers high performance. Identifies talent and capability and develops the team talent to enable further development of a high performing team.
Working in a proactive business culture with strong peer relationships, presentation skills an ability to communicate well across various levels of the business. You will leverage off your extensive experience, you will have the chance to promote business excellence through your team and you'll make full use of your broad range of skills in the areas of continuous improvement, technical knowledge, business acumen and communication.
About You
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Engineering Management experience within a EPCM or operation

Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a trade qualification with relevant experience in Project Management

Senior leadership experience and managing multi-disciplinary teams

Strong understanding of safe operations and safe behaviour fundamentals and the ability to meet multiple deadlines

Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders
