Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

The Manager HS&SEM provides leadership to a team or teams focused on the strategic management of health, hygiene, security, safety, emergency and HS assurance related issues, processes, provisions and initiatives across BHP. Translates strategy into operational plans for the department.

 

Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 4 days on; 3 days off

In The Role You Will:

  • Manages, improves and provides expertise on safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance. 
  • Responds to, manages and provides specialist/functional expertise on health-related risks to uplift organisational capability in health management. 
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems. 
  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives. 
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
  • Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals. 
  • Applies an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. 
  • Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation. 
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.
  • Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs.

About You:

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated capability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and community groups, at a senior management level.
  • Well-developed and professional technical expertise from an influenced practice in the HSE area.
  • Tertiary degree in a health, safety, environment or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of HSE related risks.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the coal mining legislative environment would also be an advantage.
