The challenged Ahead
The purpose of this role is to provides leadership to direct and indirect HSS teams, developing and implementing tactical plans that support the achievement of project strategic objectives in Health, Safety, and Security.
Accountabilities with the biggest impact:
• Designs safety programs tailored to the specific needs and realities of each project and, through the application of BOS, ensures continuous improvement and the achievement of defined HSS objectives.
• Provides strategic HSS support to Project Directors and Project Managers, enabling sustainable decision-making across projects.
• Effectively manages EPCM contractor(s) to ensure alignment with, and compliance with, BHP standards and requirements, thereby achieving excellence in HSS performance.
• Engages and negotiates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of HSS tactical plans.
• Leads by example in demonstrating our values and, through leadership and influence, fosters a strong safety culture across work teams.
• Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
• Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives.
• Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.
• Implement routines to ensure effective coordination and communication with Asset HSS teams.
• Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.
• Experience in projects, either as a Safety professional or as a Project Leader.
• Experience in managing EPCM contracts within the mining industry.
• Experience in executive-level safety leadership roles.
What we expect from you
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in health and safety management, Engineering or a related field.
• Postgraduate studies desirable.
• Extensive Project Management Exposure on the delivery of large Capital Projects desirable.
• Operational: minimum of 10 years’ experience in capital projects and large mining operations, including responsibility for budgets at work team level.
• Leadership: management experience leading medium sized teams for a minimum of 5 years. Proven contribution in establishing work plans and managing the delivery of those plans via effective leadership and management
• Demonstrated experience in executing technical HSS related work, including involvement in major change initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate with and influence both internal and external stakeholders at tactical and strategic levels.
• Demonstrated verbal and written English/Spanish language proficiency
