The challenge ahead
Key responsabilities
- Lead the development and execution of the safety strategy aligned with operational and business objectives.
- Provide strategic direction on safety risk management practices, critical controls, and assurance activities.
- Coach and mentor operational leaders to strengthen ownership of safety and risk management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance, system effectiveness, and operational discipline.
- Leverage operational data, assurance findings, and leading and lagging indicators to identify emerging risks and prioritize actions.
- Ensure robust governance processes are in place to monitor, assess, and improve safety performance.
- Provide independent assurance regarding the effectiveness of critical controls, safety systems, and risk management processes.
- Influence and engage senior internal and external stakeholders to support sustainable safety outcomes.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Safety team focused on delivering value through partnership, expertise, and continuous improvement.
- Promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, learning, and safety leadership across the organization.
What you will bring
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in Safety, Risk Management, Business Administration, Leadership, or a related field is desirable.
- Professional certification in safety, risk management, or incident investigation methodologies is considered advantageous.
Experience
- 15+ years of experience in mining or other high-risk industries.
- 5+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary HSS or operational teams.
- Proven experience in operational risk management, critical controls, incident investigations, and safety management systems (ISO 45001 and ISO 14001).
- Experience developing safety culture, contractor management, and stakeholder engagement within complex operational environments.
- Intermediate to advanced English is desirable.
Technical Knowledge
- Operational Risk Management and Critical Control Management.Incident investigation methodologies (ICAM, TapRooT, or equivalent).
- BowTie and risk assessment methodologies.Human Factors, Occupational Health, and Emergency Management.
- Knowledge of Chilean mining regulations and applicable HSE legislation.
- Strong leadership, coaching, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive a proactive risk management culture.
- Experience using leading and lagging indicators, assurance findings, and operational data to support risk-informed decision making.
- Strong understanding of continuous improvement principles and safety governance frameworks.
- Ability to lead organizational change and build capability through coaching and mentoring of leaders and teams.
