About the Role

As Mine Planning Manager, you will provide people leadership and delivery accountability for mine planning capability across BHP. You will ensure high quality, consistent, and risk aware mine planning outcomes across assets, while protecting business value and supporting future growth through strong governance, assurance, and planning discipline.

Operating as a second line technical leader, you will enable confident decision making through independent assurance, governance oversight, and trusted technical advice across all planning horizons. You will work closely with asset teams, studies teams, Practice Leads, and senior leaders to strengthen decision quality, manage mine planning risk and uncertainty, and build a sustainable pipeline of mine planning capability aligned to enterprise priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Allocate resources to support asset priorities, studies, assurance activities, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Own and execute second line assurance and governance for mine planning activities, including assurance planning, issue escalation, and closure of material findings.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to asset leadership, central functions, and enterprise stakeholders, supporting decision quality across operational, study, and future planning contexts.
  • Build and execute structured capability, mentoring, and succession plans for critical mine planning roles, aligned to RCoE capability frameworks and future demand.
  • Identify, escalate, and manage mine planning related risks that could lead to value erosion, safety impacts, or disclosure risk.
  • Partner with Practice Leads and Asset Technical teams to ensure consistent application of global standards while maintaining clear separation between people leadership and technical authority.
  • Support enterprise initiatives across Resource Development, Future Planning, portfolio optimisation, and capital delivery.

About You

You are a people focused technical leader with deep mine planning experience and a strong track record of influencing outcomes in complex environments. You bring:

  • Extensive mine planning experience across all planning horizons and multiple commodities.
  • Demonstrated people leadership and coaching capability in technical environments.
  • A strong commercial, risk, governance, and decision quality mindset.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across functions, geographies, and organisational boundaries.
  • Experience operating within second line assurance, governance, or independent review environments (desirable).
  • Experience leading teams through operating model change or organisational transformation (advantageous).
