The Challenge Ahead

 

As Manager Operational Readiness, you will play a pivotal role in defining and shaping the Operational Strategy and Operational Management Plan for the Large Capital Projects Portfolio. Reporting to the Program Director Commissioning & OR Minerals Americas, you will lead the work required to ensure projects transition efficiently from early studies through execution and stabilization.

You will bring deep expertise in Business Readiness for mega projects, strong operational readiness experience, and demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, execution, and integration of standards and processes across large-scale project environments. This role is central to ensuring BHP’s capital projects are operationally prepared to deliver safely, efficiently, and in alignment with our strategic objectives.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and integrate the development and maintenance of Operational Readiness and Operations Strategy, standards, processes, and plans for the Large Capital Projects Portfolio.
  • Oversee and ensure the complete management of change for the full scope of Operational Readiness and transition to operations.
  • Ensure the development and execution of a capital optimization program, identifying improvement initiatives to increase capital efficiency and productivity.
  • Provide Operational Readiness and Business Readiness expertise, coordinating resources and ensuring delivery of plans, processes, and procedures.
  • Act as the single point of contact for Operational Readiness deliverables and inputs during early study phases.
  • Develop and manage OR budgets and schedules for both study and execution stages.
  • Lead ramp-up and stabilization readiness planning and execution from Identification through Execution phases.
  • Manage risks and implement controls related to Operational Readiness scope and value drivers.
  • Coordinate the execution of business readiness methodologies and plans following program and project systems and standards.
  • Support and perform data analytics on OR execution, optimization, and improvement projects.
  • Drive value creation through continuous improvement applied to program standards and procedures.
  • Monitor planned, actual, and forecasted resource levels to support successful project execution.

What We Expect From You

 

Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mechanical Civil Engineering.
  • Over 20 years of process plant and operational experience.
  • Over 20 years of process mining experience in large and mega projects across identification, selection, definition, and execution stages.
  • Preferred experience in copper and molybdenum operations, including concentrators and hydrometallurgy.
  • Background in asset hierarchies, maintenance planning systems, development of standard work instructions, and training for greenfield or brownfield plants.
  • Fluency in Spanish and intermediate to advanced English.
  • Availability to travel to operational sites.

 

Location: Santiago
