Then this is an excellent opportunity for you to join BHP's Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) function, which brings together Decision Evaluation, Business Development, Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy & Market Intelligence work into one team. This opportunity is based in Santiago. 

This role will focus on Decision Evaluation activities supporting our Pampa Norte asset. The successful candidate will lead evaluation activities for decisions related to capital investments, planning, transactions and commercial opportunities in Minerals Americas Region so that the value of every business decision is clear and well informed.  We achieve this by providing independent, robust and high-quality economic evaluations of proposed portfolio level decisions and investment opportunities taking in to account risks and uncertainties. 


Key dimensions of the role:


•    Valuation Leadership: Provide expert guidance on investment decisions by identifying, quantifying, and managing risks and uncertainties. Clearly articulate investment business cases and ensure alignment with market-based metrics.

•    Application of Valuation Methodologies: Lead the practical implementation of valuation techniques for capital projects, long-term asset planning, and other commercial decisions.

•    Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with regional stakeholders and the global Decision Evaluation function to support specific global initiatives.

•    Influence and Reporting: Challenge and influence strategic thinking, prepare concise reports, and effectively communicate insights to senior management and key stakeholders.

•    Team Management: Oversee and mentor team members to successfully deliver on capital projects, transactions, and strategic plans, while fostering their professional development.

•    Development of Team Members: Train and develop team members in valuation methodologies to enhance their skills and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team.

 

 

About You

You have a development mindset, both for yourself, and for team members working with you. 

 

To be a top performer you will have:

 

•    Industry Experience: Over 10 years of experience in the resources industry, with a preference for copper and exposure to projects at various stages of maturity. 

•    Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated commercial and operational thinking, with experience in making value-based business decisions. 

•    Technical Collaboration: Ability to work with technical subject matter experts to quickly understand complex technical problems and synthesize them into business cases and valuation analyses. 

•    Corporate Finance Expertise: Strong understanding of corporate finance theory, capital markets operations, and their practical application to investment evaluation, along with robust financial modeling skills. 

•    Decision Analysis Proficiency: Solid grasp of decision analysis methodologies, including framing and probabilistic analysis. 

•    Interdisciplinary Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of key issues in related disciplines such as legal, tax, treasury, accounting/reporting, corporate governance, investor relations, and risk management. 

•    Relationship Building: Proven ability to build strong rapport and credibility with project teams, management, external auditors, and other relevant parties. 

•    Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing a team of professionals to deliver valuation analysis for capital projects, transactions, and strategic plans. 

•    Communication Skills: Proven ability to analyze and effectively communicate evaluation outcomes to stakeholders and senior management, in both English and Spanish, with advanced proficiency in both languages. 

•    Educational Background: Degree in a technical or business-related discipline; post-graduate qualifications (such as a Master's in Finance or an MBA) are highly regarded.
