About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
 
Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. To find out more about Potash and the Jansen project, click here.

Purpose

Provides leadership to a team or teams focussed on the development of cross-cutting multi-year strategies and partnerships and conducting sourcing activities. Translates strategy into operational plans for the department.


About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a small team of dedicated procurement professionals to deliver on phase 2 of our Jansen project.
  • Build and manage high‑impact supplier partnerships that drive innovation and long‑term commercial value.
  • Ensure delivery of Lowest Total Cost of Ownership through market analysis, negotiation, and optimisation.
  • Oversee complex sourcing programs and high‑risk contract negotiations.
  • Apply deep Supply Chain expertise to enhance efficiency, optimise flow, and maximise value.
  • Govern sustainability, human rights, environmental, and ethical practices across the value chain.
  • Make data‑driven, evidence‑based decisions that support long‑term business strategy.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across internal teams and global markets.
  • Foster a culture of safety, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Work Location

Downtown Saskatoon office. Working hours is 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. Regular travel activities to our Jansen site in Leroy, SK as well as to our partner’s office in Calgary, AB and various suppliers across Canada is expected. 

  

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.

About You

  • A strategic procurement leader with advanced expertise in sourcing, contract execution management and supplier relationship management.
  • Strong experience in working in IPT, EPCM and similar project set-ups.
  • Skilled in developing long‑term value chain strategies and navigating complex, multi‑region commercial environments.
  • Strong decision‑maker, using data, predictive insights, and market intelligence to guide strategy.
  • Experienced in leading high‑value negotiations and managing risk across complex contracts.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity, balancing opportunity and risk while driving clear outcomes.
  • Inclusive leader who empowers teams through coaching, feedback, and capability building.
  • Known for fostering strong internal and external partnerships built on trust and collaboration.
  • Passionate about embedding sustainability, ethics, and compliance across the supply chain.
  • Thrives in dynamic, international contexts and can influence stakeholders at senior levels.
