About the Role

 

We are seeking a forward thinking and talented individual to take on the key role of Manager Engineering across a program of works within the Copper South Australia (CuSA) Major Projects Portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to work with a range of senior stakeholders under various execution models including EPCM and owners team managed, where your contribution will have a significant impact on the business. 

 

The role is based in Adelaide and for the right applicant BHP will support relocation from any Australian state, reporting directly into the Director Technical CuSa Major Projects and will sit on the CuSA Technical Lead Team. The role will be responsible for engineering performance and outcomes across all phases and projects within the specific program. The role will provide leadership to a highly skilled and diverse engineering team, focused on all aspects of engineering through project framing, development and execution of plans, assurance over process and outcomes and integration into construction and handover.  

 

The Manager will be the key driver for improved engineering performance and effectiveness from our Owner’s Team and Engineering Service Providers. As a leading contributor and key advisor, you will deliver on your accountabilities with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility, and sustainable development.

 

Key accountabilities will include: 

 

  • Development of the project engineering management strategy, plans, standards, processes, and systems for capital projects to ensure optimum delivery across the program. 
  • Responsible to the Study/Project Manager to ensure that integrated project scope, cost, schedule, value and risk requirements are met.  
  • Leads performance management of engineering under various execution models including EPCM and owner team managed.
  • Manages resource availability of project engineering personnel to provide: 
  • Support during engineering design development and detailed engineering. 
  • In field support during execution and handover. 
  • Engineering change management during development and delivery. 
  • Respectfully and professionally, influence stakeholders to drive optimised outcomes. 
  • Collaborates with project and operational teams to ensure that engineering is developed and executed in accordance with identified methodologies, strategies and systems. 
  • Ensures creation of an environment in which internal lessons learned and external best practices are part of the operational processes and manages the measurement and continuous improvement of performance, recommending any changes required to identify capital efficiency initiatives and productivity improvements. 
  • Identifies talent and capability and provides input to broader talent plans to enable development of a high performing team. 
  • Working in a proactive business culture with a supportive management structure, and leveraging off your extensive experience, you will have the chance to promote business excellence through your team and you'll make full use of your broad range of skills in the areas of continuous improvement, technical knowledge, business acumen and communication.

About You

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

 

 

  • Engineering Management experience within a EPCM major project for large infrastructure mining or oil and gas.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a trade qualification with relevant experience in Project Management.  
  • Senior leadership experience and managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of safe operations and safe behavior fundamentals and the ability to meet multiple deadlines. 
  •  Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
