About the Role
Copper SA has an exciting growth agenda, and effective resource and infrastructure planning will be critical to turning that opportunity into safe, sustainable value.
Reporting to General Manager Planning, Technical and Environment, as the Manager Resource Engineering, you will lead a critical technical function that helps shape the future value of Copper SA’s resource portfolio, leading integration of Resource Engineering capability supporting the medium-term growth of Copper SA. You will apply engineering expertise, governance and strategic thinking across resource development and effective resource extraction to unlock safe, sustainable growth across the business.
Operating across a complex technical and operational environment, you will connect functions, operations and stakeholders to solve challenges and identify opportunities across the mining value chain, from exploration and resource development through to operations.
A key part of your leadership will be translating longer-term business objectives into actionable plans and helping Copper SA make evidence-based decisions about priorities, resources, opportunities and risk.

As Manager Resource Engineering, you will:
- Provide senior leadership to Resource Engineering teams, supporting the safe and effective planning and development of Copper SA's resources and infrastructure
- Translate corporate and longer-term business objectives into actionable plans
- Integrate across functions, operations and technical disciplines to address complex challenges and strengthen functional and asset alignment
- Apply engineering concepts, solutions and governance across resource development, and the design and planning of surface and subsurface systems
- Support evidence-based strategic decision making, balancing opportunities, priorities, resources and longer-term business objectives
- Identify, assess and manage risk within BHP's risk management framework
- Maintain a strong operational interface, working closely with Copper SA assets to support delivery of safe, productive and sustainable outcomes
- Lead through change and strengthen organisational capability through effective people leadership, coaching and mentoring
What You’ll bring to the Role
You are an experienced technical and people leader with broad knowledge across the mining value chain and a demonstrated ability to work successfully within large, complex and matrixed organisations.
You combine sound technical judgement with commercial awareness, recognising the connections between engineering decisions, operational performance, risk and long-term value.
Your background will include:
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or an aligned discipline
- Underground mining experience and strong knowledge across the technical mining value chain
- Established leadership experience, including building team capability through coaching and mentoring
- Strong integration skills, with the ability to connect technical disciplines, functions and operations to capture opportunities and effectively manage risk
- Strong critical reasoning and the ability to quickly understand technical concepts, evaluate evidence and make strategic decisions
- Well-developed business acumen and an understanding of the key drivers of shareholder value
- Strong communication, negotiation, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across a complex organisation
You will also be comfortable leading teams through change and creating an inclusive environment where people can contribute, develop and perform at their best
Work Location
This role is based in Adelaide, South Australia, with significant interface across Copper SA assets.
