About the Role

The Manager Resource Knowledge will influence leading practice in the understanding and application in the field of resource characterisation. The role will support the influence of leading practices in the understanding and application of resource characterisation and knowledge propagation of the subsurface and transformed material to inform the full life cycle of resources, from resource definition through to mine closure. 

  • Global technical expert and people leader in multidisciplinary resource characterisation and knowledge propagation within and external to BHP.
  • Execute BHP’s second line assurance activities where applicable.
  • Development of the awareness and capability of BHP geoscientists in the application of integrated geosciences to resource exploration, extraction and closure.
  • Provide team guidance to key subject matter experts and empowers SME support of BHP’s assets.
  • Building of trusted relationships with and between BHP Operations and Planning and Technical groups.
  • Identification of key knowledge gaps in the ability to create and deliver characterisation models and maintenance of roadmaps to influence allocation of resources to development initiatives.
  • Influence, lead and manage resource characterisation research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with asset or functional peers within BHP.
  • Promoting BHP as a leader in resource characterisation and knowledge to the external technical community, including universities, research institutions and professional organisations

About You

  • Demonstrated 15 years of application and effective delivery of resource characterisation and knowledge throughout the value chain, from resource delineation through to closure.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in resource characterisation and its incorporation into resource and reserve models as well as downstream business decisions.
  • Multi commodities experience including demonstrated breadth and depth of understanding of geological processes contributing to the formation of different ore deposits.
  • Has a proven track record in leading both multidisciplinary teams and breakthroughs in the understanding or application of improved resource knowledge to inform business decisions.
  • Has a record of successfully mentoring and coaching geoscientists as well as related technical professionals.
  • Evidence of technical thought leadership in influencing research directions.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new concepts through breadth of applied science-based work experience.
  • Is a recognised thought leader in industry and academic technical communities.

Required:  

  • Tertiary qualification in Geoscience 

Recommended:  

  • Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD) in geoscience or related field 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
