About the Role

DUTIES:        

  • Support the development and manage the delivery of site closure and sustaining capital Programs; 
  • Ensure closure design and execution is appropriate to the risk and liabilities for each site and consistent with the closure plan and BHP Billiton’s values;
  • Manage high risk tailings programs of varying complexity at a variety of sites across multiple jurisdictions from selection to execution; 
  • Support the development of study documents and internal approval documents as projects advance through the project tollgating process;
  • Engage multiple stakeholders in planning and execution of projects; 
  • Define project objectives and establish contractor KPI’s; 
  • Ensure project execution is in accordance with the requirements set out in the project objectives and aligns needs of site managers and closure plans;
  • Project Management and contractor oversight for the safe execution of the planned projects; 
  • Develop and lead the contractor risk assessment and induction processes;
  • Develop Request for Proposals for projects and Request for Qualifications for contractors; 
  • Lead the proposal evaluation, bid review and contractor selection process;
  • Contribute to all activities for budgeting, closure scope and plans including opportunity assessment, life of asset, annual, 2 year and 5 year budgets;
  • Align to current industry best practice in closure design; and,  
  • Support selected site management activities including SWPPP inspections and providing inputs to site and project HSEC reporting.

 

Domestic (U.S.) travel required up to 30%. Telecommuting permitted up to 40%. 

About You

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, Project Management or related field and five (5) years of post-baccalaureate work experience in the job offered or a Program Manager Tailings Mitigation-related occupation. 
Position requires five (5) years of demonstrable experience with the following: 
•    Experience dealing with stakeholders and organizations across multiple jurisdictions;
•    Expertise in managing engineering projects through the lifecycle of a mine including project development, operation, and closed assets;
•    Knowledge, background and familiarity of various mine sites;
•    Experience in Budgeting & forecasting of Project expenditure Experience with MS office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Powerpoint);
•    Experience with risk assessment and multi-criterial decision assessments;
•    Experience with design of mining structures including tailings dam, leach pads and water management structures; 
•    Experience with developing grading plans, cost estimates, and construction drawings; 
•    Knowledge of industry best practice in closure design
