About the Role

 

The role will directly lead a team of ~30 resources that support global direct/indirect tax compliance activities for BHP.  This includes tax effect accounting, returns preparation/initial reviews/lodgment and payment, reporting and supporting audit activities as required.  The leader thru the team is accountable for ensuring all BHP tax compliance activities are performed timely, accurately and with quality, supporting Group Tax (Finance) as our key stakeholder and partner.  The leader will manage a team that is part of the GBS R2A (Record to Analyze) organization and will deliver outcomes/KPI’s aligned with key stakeholders and customers, leveraging BOS (quality management system), continuous improvement/standardization and performance management and uplift.  The leader will also constantly drive improvement and productivity that uplifts customer experience and unlocks capacity and value for the team and its stakeholders, while maintaining an inclusive culture which supports the delivery of work as required.
 

 

This role will assist the VP -GBS R2A (Finance) Operations in delivering and executing simplified, standardized and increasingly automated tax processes to drive world class performance that supports the team’s vision and aspiration and effectively delivers Group Tax and overall BHP requirements.
 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Ensure that a range of tax compliance activities for the BHP Group and its subsidiaries are performed in a timely, accurate and effective manner and supports Group Tax and overall BHP requirements 
  • Oversees and manages operations to support global direct and indirect tax return preparation, initial reviews, filing, payment,  reporting requirements and delivery of month end activities. This also includes half-year and year-end briefing papers and stewardship schedules for senior management as well as tax provisioning, tax returns and reporting.
     
  • Lead the team and/or participate in annual audit processes, working closely with engaged auditors for relevant entities and processes.
  • Lead the team and/or participate in the annual tax stewardship review process for relevant entities and processes.
  • Effectively connect and partner with our Group Tax customers and partners  on delivery of requirements for compliance, reporting and support on various issues, queries and requests as they arise.  Effectively connect and partners with other GBS and BHP teams effectively to support and deliver mandate and outcomes from the team.
  • Identify continuous, sustainable improvement and simplification opportunities for overall tax operations. Embed effective and efficient systems of work to drive continuous improvement in the team and with engaging with customers

About You

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Extensive experience working with a large corporate or professional environment
  • Experience working in an SAP-based (or similar large ERP system) system environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP, OneSource Income Tax, or Vertex is a plus  
  • Solid base in financial and managerial accounting gained from experience in public accounting or corporate financial reporting or controller roles
  • Experience in management and leading large teams (20+ FTE)
