About the Role

 

We have an exciting Manager Technical Services opportunity in Copper South Australia, reporting to the General Manager Carrapateena where you will apply your leadership skills and experience within a mature mining organisation.

 

In this role you will fulfil a key position within the senior leadership team, guiding a team of Superintendents and contract business partners to safely achieve success across our Mining Operations and technical teams across BHP Carrapateena.

 

This opportunity is well-suited to someone who is highly influential and has deep foundational people leadership capability and is looking to lead a team in a dynamic, growth-orientated environment.

 

This is a pivotal role for our continued growth of the Copper South Australian operations and a real chance to make your mark and contribute to the growth of South Australia.

 

 

 

This role will be offered on a 5/2, 4/3 FIFO basis to Carrapateena from Adelaide or Port Augusta.

 

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership to promote a culture of zero harm through appropriate time in field leading and coaching field leadership activities;

  • Positively influence and shape a proactive and engaging team culture to ensure a safe, productive, quality disciplined and a sustainable approach to work;

  • Lead the development of employees through coaching & mentoring and ensuring short to medium term talent and succession planning is in place;

  • Delivery and monitoring of key business performance metrics for planning and scheduling against the strategic plan;

  • Working collaboratively as part of the site Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to execute the business strategic initiatives;

  • Providing expert review, guidance and governance across the asset for mine planning;

  • short and medium term planning execution time horizons;

  • Monitoring and controlling costs associated with Capital and Operating budgets;

  • Foster positive relationships through effective communication and open consultation with a wide group of key stakeholders;

  • Apply an understanding of the business context, BHP operating system (BOS) and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance.

 

 

About You

 

Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical teams in a complex operational environment will contribute to your success in this role.

 

Exceptional technical expertise complimented by a diverse operational mining background will certainly be advantageous. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills will also be critical in ensuring you build effective collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the business.

 

 

In addition, you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or an aligned discipline

  • Extensive experience in mining operations, with SLC and BC advantageous

  • Extensive mine planning understanding and the practical implementation of these plans into productive operations

  • Exceptional communication and the ability to engage and influence across a multitude of levels

  • Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with a focus on safety, culture, productivity, and cost outcomes

  • Deep foundational leadership where you effectively manage and engage with a diverse work group, support and promote a culture where it is Safe to Speak Up

  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership
