About the Role
The Managing Counsel, Legal - Procurement will provide Legal support for strategic and high value / risk global Procurement initiatives, with responsibility for advising on all global procurement matters within BHP Legal’s mandate.
The role will provide Legal support primarily to the Global Procurement and Enterprise & Technology Procurement teams, to identify and manage legal risks in accordance with BHP’s Charter Values and commercial objectives.
The role reports to the Head of Legal - Technology & Procurement and can be based in Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth. Occasional interstate and international travel may be required.
The Managing Counsel, Legal – Procurement is a key member of the Technology & Procurement Legal team and is an important business partner to Procurement. The key accountabilities are to:
- Advise Procurement and related stakeholders on strategic and high value / risk procurement matters.
- Establish relationships with relevant members of Procurement and other relevant stakeholders and act as a key point of contact.
- Identify procurement-related legal risks and advise on the management of those risks.
- Engage with other Legal teams to ensure consistent delivery of legal support to relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute expertise to, and support, Legal and other BHP initiatives, projects and transactions as required.
- Contribute to knowledge management activities as required, including developing and delivering training to Legal, Procurement and other stakeholders on procurement-related legal issues.
- Identify, design and implement continuous improvement opportunities in respect of legal advice on procurement matters.
About You
- Proven relevant post admission experience in a well-regarded law firm and / or corporate legal department and current Australian practising certificate.
- Proven strategic problem solving and communication skills, and the ability to be impactful and influential with senior stakeholders.
- Significant experience advising on complex procurement matters across multiple jurisdictions in respect of both technology procurement and non-technology procurement.
