About the Team
BHP’s sales and procurement activities are undertaken through a centralised Commercial organisation in Singapore with a network of offices across the world.
Within BHP Commercial, the Market Analysis & Economics team provides forecasting, analysis and research services to the wider group. The purpose of the team is to guide value enhancing decisions through rigorous, independent and innovative research, analysis and forecasts of macroeconomic and market developments.
About the Role
Market Analysis & Economics is currently seeking experienced Energy Analyst or Power Analyst talent with advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills to join their Energy, Carbon and Technology sub-team.
Reporting to Head of Energy Carbon & Technology, your accountabilities include:
- Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity, in line with BHP’s charter values.
- Build, develop, review and validate new and existing forecasting models and methodologies in BHP operational power markets (Australia, Chile and Canada).
- Prepare, maintain and communicate core forecasting assumptions to support decisions on power procurement activities, Power Price Agreements (PPA) and power strategy formulation.
- Gather and assess various market data from multiple sources, build and maintain large data sets.
- Drive data review processes, improve data infrastructure to support market analysis and research processes.
- Design, manage and contribute to the execution of large scale internal and external research projects related to power and energy markets.
- Fulfil data and quantitative analysis requests received from internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Communicate complicated and difficult concepts to stakeholders in a succinct and efficient way.
- Lead and contribute to BHP’s thought leadership endeavours.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal / external stakeholders.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Demonstrable track record in forecasting, model building and quantitative analysis.
- Experience in energy market and/or electricity price forecasting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong English language verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently and to work in a geographically dispersed or virtual team.
- A self-starter, with attention to deliverables and timely response to deadlines.
- Working knowledge of statistical/econometric software (EViews, Crystal Ball, Minitab, R etc), quantitative modelling, database management.
- Experience working with power modeling software preferred (eg. PLEXOS), but not compulsory.
- Advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, to work under tight deadlines and to simultaneously manage several projects.
- MSc in Economics or another quantitative subject will be plus but not compulsory.
Location
We have flexibility for this role to be based in our BHP corporate office in Gurgaon, India or Perth, or Brisbane in Australia. Applicant must have full working rights for the work location to apply.
