Our Operations - Carrapateena
Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade.
Please note this position is based at Carrapateena, operating on an 8/6, day shift roster with some night shift swings with FIFO (from Adelaide OR Port Augusta).
About the Role
Reporting to the Underground fixed plant maintenance Superintendent, the Material Handling System Supervisor (MHS) is a key role in ensuring that the operational tasks associated with the MHS system are carried out safely and effectively to support Carrapateena in achieving their production targets. The MHS system consists of conveyors, transfer chutes and feeders which are located underground and on the surface. The role also focuses heavily on housekeeping standards in these areas and basic conveyor belt inspections and maintenance.
A typical day would see you start the day with your underground maintenance team, participating in the pre-shift meeting. Following this, you would then deploy your team to complete the daily tasks, adjusting your crew to suit operational requirements if required. You will spend time in the field with your crew, checking in and completing field leadership activities. Some of your day is spent doing administration, reviewing completed jobs, providing inputs to the plan for the following week and reviewing/developing documents. You will ensure a smooth transition between day/night crews ensuring the teams are set up for success at handover. Throughout the day you will regularly liaise with the maintenance supervisors to ensure the operation continues to run safely and reliably.
In this role you will:-
- Integrate with Maintenance counterparts to ensure effective, pro-actively planned maintenance to minimise unplanned downtime
- Be responsible for the plant operators within the material handling system.
- Ensure daily operational tasks are completed, prioritising tasks to suit operational requirements requirements
- Be responsible for conveyor belt operation, identifying issues and escalating to maintenance team in timely manner
- Review work practices to ensure best practice
- Work with training department to ensure teams have suitable skills and progression plans
- Maintain high housekeeping standards for all the equipment

- Talented in driving and implementing initiatives & improvements around safety & performance in line with our BOS Practices
- Showcase outstanding planning and organisation skills, with the initiative to execute urgent and planned tasks without being prompted
- Thrive in pressure, with a key talent in prioritising people and workload, with the resilience and pace to work 12-hour shifts
- Hold the ability to effectively communicate across multiple levels and disciplines
- Hold preferred experience in heavy industry/warehouse environments where organisation skills were critical
- Identify, build and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development
- Whilst not essential, experience working with SAP would be of advantage
- Conveyor experience whilst not essential would be a strong advantage in this role
- Hold extensive experience driving a manual
- Trade qualifications of relevance advantageous but not essential
- Supervisory experience advantageous but not essential
