About the Role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Services Engineering, this role is a key part of the versatile Underground Mine Services operational team. The team supports underground operations through the installation and maintenance of critical mechanical infrastructure including air, water, pumping, and ventilation systems, as well as managing underground diamond drilling. 

 

As we prepare to transition to Cemented Paste Fill (CPF) in FY26, the Mine Services Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting this change. The ideal candidate will help prepare our Services team for the transition and contribute to the successful implementation of the underground paste reticulation network.

 

This is a dynamic and hands-on role that offers a broad scope of responsibility, combining technical engineering, project and contract management, coordination, and execution. It’s an exciting opportunity to be part of Olympic Dam’s next phase as we ramp up paste operations to support increased production.

 

 

This position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on an 8/6 roster, with option of  residential, FIFO ex-Adelaide, or DIDO from regional SA.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Champion a culture of care and act as a visible safety leader for the Mine Services team and stakeholders.
  • Analyse operational data and apply BHP Operating System tools to drive departmental capability.
  • Lead mechanical improvement projects from planning through to execution and closeout.
  • Support leadership in managing risk and understanding risk appetite across mechanical systems.
  • Conduct routine budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in heavy industry, mining, or underground operations is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical infrastructure such as compressed air systems, water reticulation, pumping stations, barricades, backfill reticulation, and ventilation systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in PowerBI for data consolidation and analysis.
  • Strong customer service mindset and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
