Our Operations - Olympic Dam


One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities. 


Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 7/7 rotating day/night roster pattern.  This position is available FIFO from Adelaide, DIDO from regional SA or Residential Roxby Downs.


About the Role 


The position of Technician Maintenance Execution - Mechanical Fitter, will be supporting the Concentrator Processing Maintenance department to safely and efficiently achieve departmental and BHP Olympic Dam business objectives. 

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Inspect, diagnose, service and repair a wide range of mechanical equipment
  • Overhaul and assembly of equipment
  • Utilise computerised maintenance management systems
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the workshops
  • Undertake training and upskilling as required                        
  • Have a commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
  • Execute work orders in line with maintenance plans and reliability standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Mill Circuit equipment (SAG and ball mills, gearboxes, lubrication systems, conveyors).Flotation Circuit equipment (pumps, agitators, compressors, piping systems). Filtration Plant assets  (filter cloth systems)

About You

 

 Ideally, the successful candidate will possess the following skillset: 

 

  • Australian recognized Mechanical Trade qualification (essential) 
  • Previous experience working in fixed plant maintenance (preferred but not essential)   
  • Experience in mineral processing or heavy industrial maintenance.
  • Knowledge of mill systems, slurry handling, pumps, and filtration technologies.
  • Computer literacy and experience in 1SAP or similar applications
  • Current full C Class Drivers Licence
  • Flexible, team-orientated approach with proactive communications skills
