Our Operations
Prominent Hill produces one of the highest grades of copper concentrate in the world. Located 650 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Prominent Hill is part of our Minerals Australia operation. It's made up of underground and surface operations and is located on the traditional lands of the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara people. About the Role
We currently have a role available for a Mechanical Specialist - Hoist within the Prominent Hill Maintenance and Engineering team, reporting to the Superintendent Hoisting. In this role you will be responsible for executing planned and unplanned maintenance activities, providing SME support within an operational mining and processing environment. Your work will contribute to optimal production, equipment performance and availability, as well as improving reliability and ensuring that we are well placed for future growth within the mine.
Please note this position is based at Prominent Hill on a FIFO from Adelaide basis, operating on an 8/6 roster arrangement.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, assisting in engaging, developing and coaching the newly formed Hoisting team
- Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
- Carry out unplanned and planned routine maintenance, inspections, and checks to Ore Handling and Hoisting systems, and supporting infrastructure
- Develop close working relationships with operations personnel to ensure that all plant downtime issues are escalated correctly and rectified efficiently
- Engage in Safety initiatives, identify and report on any unsafe equipment
- Assist in the planning and execution of tasks for planned hoisting shutdowns
- Assist the execution team to perform Maintenance work as per weekly schedule and during full plant outages
- Create accurate notifications from mechanical inspections and shut related tasks
- Provide the hoisting execution team with technical support for the hoisting system mechanical components and general operation
- Contribute to the development of Maintenance Procedures
- Maintain tools and equipment as well as a high level of housekeeping in all work areas
- Assist with developing scopes of work, Task Hazard Analysis (THA’s) and creation of breakdown work orders
- Champion the Prominent Hill Vision and Purpose and align with our core behaviours and operating system.
About You
- Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
- Australian recognised Mechanical Trade qualifications (essential)
- Experience working in a similar role with exposure to Ore Handling, Hoisting, Process plant maintenance
- Solid capability in Mine Hoisting Systems, ropes, and winches and mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Experience with underground mining environments (preferred)
- Well-developed skills in mechanical diagnostics and fault finding, as well as brake and hydraulic system maintenance
- Knowledge of mechanical alignment, torque settings, tolerances, and lubrication systems
- Hydraulics experience (advantageous but not essential)
- Working at Heights, Integrated Tool-carrier (IT) Ticket advantageous
- Ability to confidently make decisions relating to your work, or escalate if needed
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with Operations, Planning and other related personnel
- Proficient in the use of SAP or similar, preferred but not essential
