About Mt Arthur Coal

 

Mount Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales it's the largest producer of energy coal in the region, operating alongside olive growers, wine makers, horse breeders and the nearby residential community of Muswellbrook.

About the Role

 

We are currently seeking an experienced Mine Geologist to join our team, which has an exceptional culture where success is celebrated, and work/life balance is valued.

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Resource, your role will be to support the site’s production, planning, project, CHPP, environmental and closure needs through the timely delivery of geology information and support. Your knowledge and experience provides the vital link between the resource and the operation.

 

 

The role on offer is Monday- Friday position

 

 

In this role you will:

  • With an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development,
  • Provide geological support to the site operational teams;
  • Conduct geological pit inspections and structural mapping;
  • Update 3D models of coal seams and geological features;
  • Develop production models to support through seam loading and blasting.
  • Undertake geological data collection, interpretation, validation and reconciliation;
  • Provide input into mine plans and designs and collaborate with Grade Control Engineers, Survey, Geotech and Production;
  • Seek to minimise coal loss and dilution through regular and proactive pit presence and the development of accurate geological plans;
  • Continuously improve procedures and processes.

 

In this role, there is also an opportunity to gain exposure to closure projects through the collection and provision of geological data to support the managed transition to closure and beyond.

About You

 

Applicants of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • A Tertiary Education in Geology;
  • A valid Australia Driver’s Licence;
  • Operational experience in open cut coal mining is advantageous;
  • Exposure to geological modelling;
  • Knowledge of coal mining, structural geology and coal flow;
  • Experience with Vulcan, Geobank and Plexer is advantageous;
  • Experience with and understanding of coal quality.

 

You will be diligent, self-motivated and an excellent team player with positive relationship building skills and a high level of attention to detail.
