About the Role
As a Mine Production Engineer at BHP Olympic Dam, you’ll play a key role in driving production performance across our extensive underground operation. Working closely with operational and technical teams, you will provide specialist analysis, benchmarking and performance insights to optimise end-to-end production outcomes.
You’ll identify, develop and implement a portfolio of improvement initiatives that support business priorities, unlock value and embed a culture of continuous improvement. Your work will directly influence operational excellence, productivity and long-term performance.

This role is based at Olympic Dam on an 8 days on / 6 days off roster. We offer FIFO from Adelaide and residential options in Roxby Downs. BHP can support relocation to South Australia.
In this role you will:
- Engage with underground crews and their leaders to ensure that new ideas are developed and practically implemented, and to build cross-team relationships;
- Compile reports & provide expertise to other teams in analysis of production performance indicators and metrics;
- Analyse and determine equipment capability assumptions;
- Identify functional capability gaps and recommend improvement opportunities to department leadership;
- Prepare inputs to form the production budget and produce operating standards, procedures and work instructions;
- Provide feedback to the Planning & Technical teams to improve future execution plans, designs, schedules and forecasts; and
- Engage with Reliability teams for modifications needed to plant and equipment, and with Technology teams to explore new capabilities.
About You
- You will consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day, with a proven commitment to the wellbeing of those around you, demonstrating confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
- You will be degree-qualified Mining Engineer or a closely related field, and operational underground mining experience is preferred
- You will have thorough understanding of the underground production cycle, including stope drilling and blasting, truck loading and haulage, and raise drilling
- Your previous experience in managing and implementing improvement initiatives will be highly regarded
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to influence others, communicate complex concepts, and document clearly and concisely
- Ability to work collaboratively across different work groups and proactively engage with a range of stakeholders
