About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled Mining Engineer to join a leading open cut coal operation in Queensland’s Bowen Basin based at BHP's Saraji Mine working an 8:6 Day shift 12 hour roster. You will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and executable mine plans focused on pre-strip and haulage activities and report to the Superintendent with coaching and mentoring from the Senior Engineer.
This role offers exposure to a large-scale mining environment and the chance to contribute to short to medium-term planning while collaborating closely with operations and technical teams.
FIFO (BNE to MOV), residential or DIDO options available.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver pre-strip excavation and dump designs (weekly to budget horizons)
- Produce and maintain haulage concepts aligned to operational requirements
- Monitor and report dig-to-design compliance
- Work closely with operations teams to ensure plans are practical and achievable
- Communicate planning outcomes clearly to production and execution teams
- Contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
- Build strong cross-functional relationships across planning and operations
About You
- Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in open cut coal mine planning, particularly truck & shovel operations
- Practical knowledge of short to medium-term mine planning
- Proficiency in mining software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or SPRY
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Results-driven with a focus on safety, efficiency and continuous improvement
